Royal Greeting That Tells Lester Piggott He Is Forgiven
It was redemption day at the Epsom Derby on Saturday — and not just for Padraig Beggy, the 31-year-old jockey who stormed to a thrilling victory on a 40-1 rank outsider two-and-a-half years after his 15-month drug ban in Australia.
For an older Derby legend, Lester Piggott, who was sentenced to three years' imprisonment for tax fraud of more than £3 million in 1987 and subsequently stripped of his OBE, was warmly greeted by the .
The otherwise unremarkable greeting for nine-times Derby winner Piggott, now 81, is a sure sign that Her Majesty, who looked resplendent in a yellow coat and hat, has consigned his conviction — for which he did just a year's porridge — to history.
Perhaps this could pave the way for the return of Piggott's OBE?
When the late, great racing commentator Peter O'Sullevan once asked the Queen if reinstatement of Piggott's OBE was possible, he received a considered reply: ‘I Iike the way you put it, but he was rather naughty . . . not only rather naughty, but very stupid.'

Coldplay frontman Chris Martin's former wife Gwyneth Paltrow recently claimed that women should burn their bras to ‘cleanse' the negative energy of failed relationships.
Thankfully, Martin's girlfriend, Annabelle Wallis — Tom Cruise's co-star in new film The Mummy — had the sense to keep hers on when she stepped out in a perilously see-through top at the weekend.
The 32-year-old Oxfordshire-born blonde was spotted leaving the Chiltern Firehouse in Marylebone, wearing a black top under which her black bra was on full display.

The next generation of Jaggers is upon us.
While many of Sir Mick's eight children, including model Georgia May, jewellery designer Jade and actor James, are enjoying successful careers, now his granddaughter, Amba Jackson, is ready to rock the fashion world — and is pictured modelling one of the quirky outfits she has created with textile designer Yuka Kishi.
‘Amba has just come back to London from Pratt Institute in Brooklyn,' her mother, Jade, tells me.
‘She's in London now and she's going to be a designer — everyone should watch out!
‘She's amazing.
She does a lot of embroidery and appliques.'
Amba, 21, whose father is artist Piers Jackson, has, for now, called her label Ambiguous.
‘But I don't know if that's set,' adds Jade at The Perfect Ten Exhibition party hosted by Tanqueray No.

Fergie's new diet trick
The Duchess of York has struggled with a food addiction in the past, and has kept up her recent three-stone weight loss with a rather peculiar diet, combining mayonnaise, tomatoes and mandarins.
Now, though, she reveals a ‘clean alkaline diet' is helping her to stay trim.
‘I believe that my joints, my nails, my hair and the way I am are better on a very strong, clean alkaline diet,' explains Fergie, 57.
‘More than anything else, it comes down to my intake of nurturing foods.
‘I drink green juice, and I put turmeric in it with ginger, pineapple and a lot of asparagus because it's a natural diuretic.
‘I really find that works very well for me.
‘For lunch — poor spinach department — I eat a lot of spinach.'
Fiercely private model Kate Moss, 43, might want to keep a close eye on her toyboy lover, Count Nikolai von Bismarck, from now on.
The 30-year-old professional snapper has just joined the photo-sharing website Instagram, which is, among many things, used by celebrities to share intimate details of their lives with strangers.

Downton Abbey beauty Michelle Dockery has surprised her fans by revealing she has a naturally freckled face.
The 35-year-old, who played the creamy complexioned Lady Mary Crawley in the ITV series and always appears blemish-free on camera, posted online this selfie to support disfigurement charity Changing Faces, whose logo she painted on her cheek.
‘You look so young with your freckles!' commented one fan, while another wrote: ‘Never realised you had freckles!'
