Before you can choose one of these options, you need to sort through your accumulated collection and determine what you have. Do you have items that are still useable and that others may buy? Are all your items old and broken down - perhaps things you never got around to fixing? These are probably candidates for throwing away. Do you have items made of wood, aluminum, or other recyclable material? Find some boxes and label them "Recyclable," "Throw Away," and "Sell." Then tackle to task of sorting through your stuff one room at a time.

Your Options Galore: At an online auto parts marketplace, there's an abundance of suppliers offering millions of products. Hence the chances of your finding exactly what you're looking for and of the quality you desire, are much higher. Compare this to a visit to a brick 'n' mortar auto parts store which can only house as much variety of products as the floor space warrants.

pull parts Some parts are relatively expensive, such as motors and controllers, costing half or more of the price of a new appliance. In some cases, the cost is because the parts are unique and fit only a limited number of models. In most cases, however, they are expensive because they are complex--and necessary to operation. You won't find a replacement motor for your hair dryer at the hardware store. And if you do find one through the manufacturer's service department, it may cost nearly as much as a new hair dryer.

Grouping things together can be a good idea. CDs or DVDs, for example, could be sold as a pack of five rather than individually. You are more likely to sell them all, rather than have one or two left behind.

2) The junk yard. While you might think you are above visiting a junk yard, are you above saving a lot of money? Probably not. A quick stop in at the local junk yard might save you a lot of money compared to a new air filter. And, even better, this ties directly into point #1. A friend of my, Robert, needed an auto part so he looked online and found a car delivery service. The junk yard shipped him a part that was almost new and he couldn't have been happier. Just cause an air filter is used, doesn't mean it's very used!

Even if you don't know what the part is or what it belongs to, feel free to bring it to the recycling center. Even if the part is no use, the metal that it is made of could be valuable. In most cases, it makes sense to bring in all of the parts that you have that you know you don't need anymore. Someone at the facility will be able to take a look at what you have and let you know what can be turned in.

While numerous used car parts are just fine, think twice about parts that directly correlate with safety, especially if you are often driving around passengers and small children. Some parts are best to purchase new.
