As you know Shards Online is in a alpha state and you have the opportunity to work with the development team to help make the modding capabilities for this game more powerful than ever seen before in an online game.
At this early stage, any mod will require some degree of script modifications. If you are an experienced
scripter/coder you will be able to do a great deal of cool things with the engine even at this early stage.
If you are not a coder, we still encourage you to crack open the scripts and attempt to make changes.
Even simple changes to settings variables can have a large impact on how the game plays.
Right now the modding tools are in a very rough state and much of the Lua scripts still require cleanup.
It’s important to keep in mind that everything is subject to change and how we shape the environment
will be dependent on your feedback. Try to think of the mods you create now as experiments and
exercises in learning the system rather than final products you will use during Alpha. This is because the
engine and default rules will be changing a great deal from release to release and if you create a big
complicated mod it could be difficult to merge in all of the changes from each release.
